Connection Gap That Data Alone Can't Fix

Most conversations about localisation focus on money: how much reaches local organisations, and how directly. That focus is right, the data in our previous piece shows exactly why it matters. But funding is not the only gap. There is a second, quieter one that gets far less attention: local and national organisations working on strikingly similar challenges, often in similar contexts, rarely have a direct way to learn from each other.

An organisation strengthening emergency response capacity in one region and an organisation doing the same work a few countries away are more likely to encounter each other's experience through an international conference, a donor-convened workshop, or an intermediary's summary report than they are to simply talk to one another. The knowledge exists. The connection to access it usually doesn't.

We are developing a platform to close that gap directly: a space for local and national organisations to exchange knowledge with peers around the world, supporting more than 30 languages so that language is never the reason a useful piece of experience doesn't travel. Development begins as funding is secured, and we already have a team in place ready to build it.

This sits alongside, not apart from, the advisory and capacity work we do elsewhere. A donor strategy is stronger when it's informed by what local actors are already learning from each other. Capacity strengthening goes further when an organisation isn't just receiving training from an outside advisor, but learning directly from a peer who has solved the same problem in a different country. Convening, in other words, is not a separate service alongside capacity and strategy; it's what makes both of them work better.

We'll share more as development progresses. For now, this is simply a statement of intent: south-to-south learning shouldn't depend on who happens to be in the room at an international conference. It should be something any local organisation can access directly.
